Flexional – Breaking Circles: on wax
Music stories from clients who trusted Mind The Wax to press their music on vinyl!
Flexional is a musical duo made up of KappaDee and DJ Eugene. Their collaboration is characterized by a unique blend of electronic music, hip hop, reggae, and soul, with a strong emphasis on captivating grooves and refined sounds, resulting in tracks that combine powerful basslines, intricate rhythms, and a creative use of sampling. Flexional stands out for their ability to create engaging and dynamic atmospheres, both in the studio and during their live performances, where they often use turntables, analog and digital instruments to deliver unique and interactive shows.

What genres, artists, or life experiences have shaped your sound the most?
Hip hop, Soul, Breakbeat, Classical music, Trip hop, Blues, Jungle (not necessarily in this order) music fl ows through our veins, so often you will fi nd us meditating through sounds from KRS One to Nyman, from BB King to Burial and from Portishead to Goldie.
What’s one unexpected influence that might surprise listeners?
We really enjoy listening to traditional world music. Stranger the music, happier we are!
What’s the heart of this album — the story or theme that ties it together?
Breaking Circles is a journey through breaking patterns, overcoming personal limits, and seeking a new balance. Each track is a piece of this path-a sonic exploration that shifts between introspective moments and bursts of pure energy.

“Breaking Circles”
Was there a specific moment or turning point that sparked its creation?
In the COVID Pandemic we have been under so much stress caused of restrictions and solitary, so once we’ve got through, we had the necessity to release all that pressure and that’s what mainly leaded to the birth of this LP.

If you had to describe this album in one quote or phrase, what would it be — and why?
We think that the album’s title tells everything! Breaking a circle, a motif, getting out of a loop or a habit, needs courage, self knowledge and determination and that’s all about this album. They say “if you can imagine it then you can do it” and that’s what happened.
What’s one track on this album that feels the most personal to you — and why?
Every track has been crafted with attention and each has its own story behind, from the idea to the production to the gravity of the lyrics (and the multiple keys of their interpretation), so it’s hard for us to choose one from the other, but if we absolutely had to pick one up, that
would be the track called “Più Fuoco” which means More Fire in Italian, phat baselines with social-political (or inner strength depends from the interpretation) lyrics.

What gear, instruments, or software were central to the sound of this record?
Mostly the genesis of the idea happens outside of the studio, in our minds, and by doing so, studio time is fast because we already know where we want to go. Then, there is only a matter of time getting there by compiling the “sonic puzzle”. The ideas become concrete into the Akai MPC, they get extended by incorporating recordings of vocals and external instruments like synthesizers, turntables, guitars and percussions (of any kind), and fi nally get mixed through hardware and software.
We are blessed to have a fully functional studio in our hands, so we can handle all the process. From the recording sessions to the mix and mastering.
Any memorable or unexpected moments from the recording process?
Hard disc failure in the half of the album.. moments of panic but we’ve managed to solve it after some days of panic. Who can relate will understand!
Did you collaborate with anyone on this project — musically or visually?
We are surrounded by a big number of great musicians and we always like to incorporate them in our tracks, because they are part of our story.

Why did you choose to press this release on vinyl — what does the format mean to you?
We chose to press this album on vinyl because it represents something timeless and intentional—two things we value deeply in our music. There’s a kind of ritual to playing a record: the physicality of it, the deliberate act of placing the needle, the warmth of the sound. It invites listeners to slow down and experience the album as a whole, front to back, the way we crafted it.
Also, being vinyl collectors ourselves, we think that owning a record makes an invisible connection through the listener and the artist (much more so if the artist is independent).
Was there a moment when you knew this album had to be on vinyl?
We are really selective about our music and about what we publish, because we think that quality is more important than quantity. This album for us is a collection of stories and events, every track wakes up memories and that’s something we’ve wanted to share with everybody. So, while we were finishing the mastering of the album, listening to the tracks again and again in the studio, everything just clicked. It felt like the kind of music that belonged on vinyl. Not just heard, but felt.
How do you feel hearing your music on vinyl for the first time?
In this digital era of “fast food streams” that we are living, we feel that it’s a blessing having our tracks pressed on a physical format, carved into wax, permanently. It’s not just music
anymore, it’s a memory you can hold. which you can listen with your ears, feel with your hands, take your time to appreciate.
Can you share some details about the final product — the vinyl color, weight, packaging, or any custom features?
We have been wisely advised by Mind The Wax to go for a 140 gr. vinyl and that’s what we did, but we wanted in some way to stand out from the ordinary, so we decided to go with a sky blue color/transparent disc. It looks really nice!
What’s the ideal setting for someone to drop the needle on this record for the first time?
For us and who understand the lyrics, maybe it creates the right vibe to start a riot, so before going out should be ideal
What was your experience like working with Mind The Wax on this pressing?
This is our fi rst release on vinyl so we were dubious and full of questions in the beginning, but from the start the professional and competent personnel guided us with high attention on a personal level. MTW made us feel safe during the process, an element that has been very appreciated.
What advice would you give to other artists considering a vinyl release?
Try Mind The Wax!

Where can fans buy the vinyl or stream the album?
Via bandcamp, Facebook message, Instagram DM and on our gigs!
Are there any special editions, merch bundles, or upcoming live shows tied to the release?
Yes there is a special merch bundle that contains the vinyl, a Flexional / We Bring Bass t- shirt and stickers.
What does it mean to have a tangible product your fans can hold?
For us, it’s about turning something intangible—our songs, emotions, stories—into an object that holds meaning and invites people to slow down and experience it fully.
It adds weight and presence to the experience, making the music feel more lasting and personal. For our fans, we hope it’s a way to feel closer to us, and create memories around the music that go beyond just listening.
Where can listeners follow you and stay in touch with your journey?
You can fi nd and follow our updates on our Bandcamp page, where you can fi nd all our nineteen releases, even the ones that are not on Spotify or on other digital platforms
